IMG_9867Guests should prepare their palates for some enticing gourmet food adventures when you arrive here at Iris Inn, all thanks to the culinary creativity of Chef Caitie Maharg.

In her role as our executive chef, Caitie is oversees the inn’s food & beverage operations, including culinary specials like our Sip ‘N Simmer Cabin Dinners, a new offering for 2016.  These Sip & Simmer dinners were designed to provide a master chef experience to home cooks of any skill level. Caitie prepares a four-course dinner and pairs it with wine, then leaves it to our cabin guests to add the finishing touches. Some of the decadent dishes include Bacon & Parmesan Potato Soufflés paired with Ponga Sauvignon Blanc and a choice of Either Roasted Fennel and Orange Chicken with a Honey Ale Glaze or Lemon Garlic Salmon (both served with Garlic Roasted Potatoes and Asparagus) paired with a Virginia blended red, the Lovingston Rotunda. Recipes and souvenir wine glasses are included.

Before coming to Iris Inn, Caitie held chefs roles at The Lodge at Old Trail, Keswick Hall, Boar’s Head Inn and Kingsmill Resort & Spa. Sous Chef positions at James Madison University and the University of Virginia round out her resume. Caitie is certified by the American Culinary Federation (ACF) and was named its culinary apprentice of the year in 2008. Most recently, she won Guy’s Grocery Games, a high-skills shopping and cooking competition on Food Network.

Caitie’s dedication to excel at cooking is a serious commitment. Since she was 10 years old, Caitie wanted to become a chef.  Having battled brain cancer as a child, she hated the food at the hospital. Determined to survive and make her goal a reality is what motivated her. It continues to drive her today, in addition to encouraging others to pursue their dreams as well.

We can’t wait for you to visit the Iris Inn and try out some of Caitie’s outstanding cuisine for yourself!
