These 3 Outstanding Local Orchards have Stellar Reputations
Carter Mountain Orchards–Located in Charlottesville, Carter Mountain Orchard is just a quick 20-minute drive from the Inn. ¬†You’ll find sweet cherries in June, and peaches and nectarines in July and August. Apple season begins in late August overlapping with pumpkin and gourd season from September to November.
Carter Mountain also has a vineyard which produces a variety of grapes including Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon, a “farm to glass” wine! Plus, the vineyard has partnered with the widely respected¬†Prince Michel Vineyard and Winery in Charlottesville.
Using Carter Mountain grapes, Prince Michel has created award-winning wines for many years. Additionally, the joint venture has also produced a tasting room at the Carter Mountain Vineyard. Check it out!
If you love hard cider, make sure to taste Bold Rock Hard Cider, also located at Carter Mountain. This hard cider is crushed and crafted right here in the Blue Ridge Mountains using apples from the Vineyard.
Plenty of events to love as well! Every July, Carter Mountain hosts an Ol’ Fashioned Peach Festival. Thursday nights offer Thursday Evening Sunset Series with music, food, and good times.
Chiles Family Orchards–This is Carter Mountain’s sister orchard in Crozet. From strawberries in the spring to peaches, apples, and vegetables in the summer, Chiles Family Orchards offer pre-picked or pick your own options.
You’ll also find tasting rooms at the orchard with a fine selection of local beverages, many grown with Chiles’ own fruits. Bold Rock Hard Cider and Prince Michel Winery tastings are also available.
From April-November, the orchard hosts an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast with seasonal fruit toppings, sausage, coffee, milk, and orange juice. It happens every Saturday and Sunday 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
The first weekend in August celebrates the peak of peach season with homemade peach ice cream! It’s a delicious event that’s also a major fundraiser for the Crozet Lions Club. What a tasty way to support the local Crozet community! (This event has been known to sell out, so come early!)
