Historic Staunton Foundation Presents the 9th Annual Winter Wine Weekend
If it weren’t for a group of forward-thinking Stauntonians, the 1970’s would have been an architectural disaster for Staunton, VA.
Historic buildings were being torn down at a record rate. But thankfully, because of their efforts, the Historic Staunton Foundation was born.
Now people from around the country and the world enjoy the intricate and ornate buildings that we take for granted.
But just as it was in the ’70’s, HSF’s mission is more than preserving historical buildings.
This worthy organization also preserves our communities as well. That’s why the annual Winter Wine Weekend is so important (and fun!)
Ensuring Staunton’s Architectural Heritage
For over 40 years, HSF has been an integral part of the revitalization of Staunton’s downtown.
Bill Frazier & Associates, now a prestigious architectural firm here in town, was part of the grassroots organization that got the Historic Staunton Foundation off the ground.
Frazier knew that for small communities like Staunton urban decay was a problem due to a lack of economic development.
He believed preservation was the key. And he was right! Over 40 years later, his vision is still paying off.
These beautiful old buildings are a great part of the city’s charm, creating a magnet for success. Here at Iris Inn, we regularly encourage our guests to visit Staunton and enjoy the mixture of architectural designs, including the old National Valley Bank.
The care and preservation of Staunton’s architectural past is one of the reasons distinguished organizations like Huss & Dalton, the Heifetz Institute, and the American Shakespeare Center chose the city as their home base.
Winter Wine Weekend 2018: A Good Cause and A Good Time
To continue to preserve and grow communities takes money. That’s why seven years ago, HSF began the Winter Wine Weekend as a fundraiser for the organization.
The first one was a success and each year the popularity grew. We’re proud to say that this year marks the 8th annual Winter Wine Weekend, which will be held at the Stonewall Jackson Hotel.
You’ll also get a souvenir glass, snack bag, listen to great music, and get a chance to win one of several raffles.
Advance tickets are $25 if purchased prior to February 16th, and $30 thereafter. The event itself will be held on February 23rd, noon- 5 p.m. at the Stonewall Jackson Hotel. Get complete details here.
It’s great fun for a worthy cause, one no wine lover wants to miss!
Plan to stay with us to enjoy the peaceful views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and our hearty made-from-scratch breakfasts. We’re just 20-minutes from the Stonewall Jackson Hotel, and the short drive is scenic.
Hope to see you soon!
