Oktoberfest 2017The highly anticipated 2017 Oktoberfest kicks off on October 7th, 12:00 p.m. – 7 p.m. at the Frontier Culture Museum. 

And what an event it is!

Each year, the event is brimming with authentic German food and entertainment, craft beer, and artisan craft booths.

This year’s food vendors include local favorites The Bavarian Chef, Saucy Dogs, Joe’s Sausages, Rick’s BBQ of Waynesboro, and Smiley’s Ice Cream.

And that’s just for openers!

Taste Authentic German Food and Enjoy Fine Musical Entertainment

Not only can you taste German food, you can visit a German farm relocated from Hordt, Germany. The Frontier Culture Museum also encourages you to visit the other relocated farms throughout the day. 

Here’s the full farm schedule, which includes games and music:

  • German Farm: Games, Music, Full Meal Preparation
    (Stuffed stomach, sauerkraut, curd dumplings with apple butter)
  • West Africa: Games 8-­11, 3-­5; Goats: All day
  • English Farm: Quoits 8-­11, 3-­5; Brewing: throughout the day
  • Irish Farm: Spinning and flax work
  • Ganatastwi: Games/pigments & face painting 10-­12, 3-­4
  • 1740’s Farm: Basketmaking: 10-­12, 3­-4; String games: throughout the day
  • 1820’s Farm: Apple fritters: 10-­12; Music: 1-­4
  • 1850’s Farm: Roast pork and vegetables 10-­2; Herbals/Garden 3-­5

Oktoberfest 2017 Includes Authentic German Music and Dancers

No German festival would be complete without a taste of its musical culture. To start off the afternoon, Staunton’s very own Rhythm Road will perform German and American roots music.

In all, there will be 5 bands performing.

There will also be German musical acts dedicated to preserving traditional German dance.

You can dance with the S.G.T.E.V. Hirschjäger group, and the Schwartz Sauerkraut Band will perform traditional German music dressed in traditional Bavarian clothing.

If you’re in the mood to shop, you’ll find all kinds of artisans at Oktoberfest, proudly displaying their works.

You might find some gifts for Christmas!

Best of all, there is plenty of craft beer to go around. Stable Craft Brewery is a sponsor, so expect high-quality beer.

Blue Ridge Beverage will also supply all kinds of non-alcoholic beverages, so you’re sure to find a drink to suit your palate.
