Father’s Day celebrations began unofficially in the early 1900’s, though the exact origin is debated between West Virginia and Washington state. It wasn’t made into a national holiday until 1972. This long held tradition is deserving affords the wonderful opportunity to enumerate the qualities you most appreciate about your old man. The history buff father will love to tour the historical sites in our area. There are 3 presidential houses within easy distance of the inn: Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello, James Madison’s Montpelier, and James Monroe’s Ash Lawn-Highland. Each estate has marvelous tours, events, and walking trails. Staunton’s Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library & Museum is well worth a visit as well. Their exhibits cover the president’s life, career, and legacy.
