Virginia Wine and the Rule of “3”

Three is a memorable number, a notable figure of myths, legends, and religions, and even labeled by mathematician Pythagoras as the “noblest of all digits.” We happen to like the number three, especially when it pertains to wine. 3King Family Vineyards in Crozet, VA is pleased to bring you the annual release of a wine that is a product of the power of three—three winemakers, three vineyards, and three grape varieties. This wine, appropriately named “3,” is comprised of a red blend of Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc, and is the result of the collaborative efforts of “Team Three”—Matthew Finot of King Family Vineyards, Emily Pelton of Veritas Winery, and Jake Busching of Grace Estate Winery. “Sticking to the “rule of three,” the blend was made from three separate tasting trials in order to ensure the proper blend of fruit and oak.  The result is a well-balanced wine with aging potential that has bright red fruit on the attack and opens up to rich notes of dark cherry and blueberry on the mid-palate” (King Family Vineyards). Quite an introduction, yes? The release of “3” promises to be every bit as engaging as its preface. Join winemakers, wine connoisseurs, casual drinkers, and curious locals at Grace Estate Winery on March 21, 2014 for the release celebrations. Tastings begin at 3:30 P.M. and last until 7:30 P.M. Don’t forget that “3” is a limited edition wine and can only be purchased at the three participating wineries (with each bottle costing $33.33). Once this wine is sold out, it’s gone! Grace Estate Winery is only a 25-minute drive away from the Iris Inn, so book your room now and get ready for the release of “3.”
