Each year the Virginia Winery Association conducts a prestigious and vigorous judging of the state’s best wines. Judging based on appearance, aroma, flavor, overall quality, and commercial suitability, 42 esteemed wine professionals, sommeliers, specialists, and Masters of Wine weighed 490 Virginia wines to determine the winners. The Virginia Governor’s Cup has been a stringent competition for 35 years.
