For those of you who need some rest and relaxation, it’s almost time for another festival that’s included in our Wine Therapy Package! The Shenandoah Valley is ripe with greenery, and this is the perfect time of year to celebrate the natural world. This event includes a seminar tent with horticulture experts, wine-tasting, beer-tasting, artisans, tips for landscapers and gardeners, children’s activities, and the absolutely beautiful Viette gardens. There are so many wonderful activities at this event that it’s impossible to list everything here. Therefore, you will simply have to experience it for yourself. (I mean, seriously, how could this festival NOT be appealing???)

So…let’s talk a little bit about that beautiful little flower called the daylily. You may not know a lot about them, so here are a few brief facts, courtesy of the University of Minnesota:

  • Each of these flowers only lasts one day
  • Each plant blooms for 30-40 days
  • Daylilies flower best with around six hours of direct sunlight
  • There are more than 35,000 named daylilies
  • Daylilies are of the genus Hemerocallis, and are not actually true lilies

Andre Viette is well-known for his daylily hybrids, and neither descriptions nor photographs do justice to these lovely pieces of nature. The only way for you to truly appreciate their beauty is to see them in person, and the only way for you to see them in person is to come to the festival during your stay at our bed and breakfast.
